Equipment

Soccer Balls & Netballs

  • Inspect your ball after use and brush off any dirt, or organic material
  • For tough dirt marks, use a damp sponge with a mild soap to wipe away the dirt
  • Rinse with cool fresh water
Drying tips
  • Remove excess moisture by drying with a clean towel
DON'T do the following
  • Don't use a hair dryer or heat gun to dry
  • Don't use a strong detergent to clean

Shinguards

  • Brush away debris - Before washing, take a moment to wipe off any dirt or debris that has collected on the shin guards. This will be a particularly important step after a game on a muddy field.
  • Check instructions - Be sure to look at the instructions for your specific guards to make sure they’re okay to wash in a machine. If not, you’ll need to wash them by hand.
Wash tips
  • Machine wash - If you are able to wash your shin guards in the washing machine, place them in a pillowcase or laundry bag for the wash cycle to help prevent them from banging into the sides of the machine.
  • Use the right detergent - Use a quality sports detergent and run the machine on a gentle cycle.
  • OR Hand wash - If your guards are made entirely of plastic, handwashing is best. Use a brush with soap and water to scrub away any debris. Then soak the guards in a mixture of detergent and water for 15–20 minutes (a plugged sink works nicely).
  • NB Excessive scrubbing will damage the fabric!
Drying tips
  • Air dry - When the cycle or soak is finished, DON’T place the guards in the dryer, as this can damage them. Instead, hang them out to dry.

Bags

  • When your bag starts to get dirty, empty all the pockets/compartments
  • Wipe off dirt (inside and out) with a damp sponge using a mild soap
  • Rinse the pack completely using lukewarm tap water
  • Make sure all dirt is rinsed out of buckles and zippers
  • Pat dry with a towel and allow the pack to dry away from heat source and not in direct sun
Wash tips
  • Use a soft bristled nylon brush to get tough and stubborn stains out.
  • NB Excessive scrubbing will damage the fabric!
Drying tips
  • Make sure there are no pools of water trapped in the bag
  • Leave all the pockets open
  • Hang it on your wash line or a tree branch in a breezy spot to ensure it drys quickly
